View on EtsyFundraisers planning December appeals often send one letter to everyone, including the donors who gave last year and haven't given yet.
Those donors have a name. LYBUNT means gave Last Year But Unfortunately Not This year. SYBUNT means gave in Some earlier Year But not this one. Both depend on when your fiscal year starts. Donor retention is the related rate: of last year's donors, how many gave again this year. In our fictional example, 60 of 92 donors gave again, which is 65%.
LYBUNT donors already know you, so they deserve their own ask that recognizes their last gift. Check two things first: whether anyone is marked Do Not Contact, and whether the gift history is long enough to judge.
Our Donor Retention & Lapsed Donor Recovery System builds LYBUNT and SYBUNT lists in Excel or Google Sheets for any fiscal-year start. Each donor gets a lifecycle state, from new and active to lapsing, lapsed or reactivated. An action queue ranks who to contact with the reason on every row, using point values you can edit. If your records are too short for a retention rate, it shows N/A rather than a misleading 0% or 100%.
It holds 1,000 donors and 5,000 gifts, and sends no emails itself.
