Writing the executive summary first feels efficient, until the proposal body drifts away from what the summary promised.

The common belief is that a strong proposal starts with a strong summary. In practice the summary is often the part reviewers read most closely, so it should describe something already built. A sounder order is: theory of change, logframe, indicators, activities and schedule, budget from activities, MEAL, narrative, and the summary last. Each step tests the one before. If a budget line can't be tied to an activity, it isn't ready to be in the budget.

Our AI Grant Writing Playbook (PDF) is written around that build order. It opens with a six-question fit test, where two or more "no" answers means you decline. The AI workflow has seven steps and three fixed rules: every number traces to a source, no generated beneficiaries, quotes or photos, and no beneficiary data in AI tools. Before submission, someone who didn't write the proposal runs a red-team review. Three worksheets come with it: the fit test, logic and indicators, and an AI draft and review log.

You submit a summary that matches the body, with every number traceable.

It improves how proposals are prepared. It can't guarantee a funding decision.
